No, I am not singing I promise (so get your fingers out of your ears). It is breeding season here again at the farm and the boys smell oh so good...errr I mean they stink to high heavens but if you are a breeder of goats you come to love that smell.
Today after milking I seen our beautiful girl Chime was hanging by the boys pen more then her normal "Hey boys see me?? To bad you can't get me!!'' (said in the most sassy voice you can think of). So I get all excited and run to get Dangit out and set up their "date''. See here at the farm we do hand breeding so we know when each is due. We are there for every delivery and pull every kid (but more on that later). So I sit out on the picnic table and watch for what seems like a month for them to do something.... NOTHING. They look at me like I am some peeping tom pervert so I go inside and try to wash the smell of buck off me. I every once in awhile peek outside the window to see him rubbing his stink all over her and Chime just standing there looking at the front door begging to be let out. Away from the stinky massive buck that keeps peeing on his face and rubbing it all over her. Oh just thought of something... I have to milk her later hmmm... I am going to be going to the sprint car races with the smell of buck all over me. Which is always fun, this time of the year people tend to give me a wide berth and most do not bug you when in the public unless of course they can't smell like AT ALL or they are goat people too.
It is for sure never a dull moment here at the farm and I hope to bring you more funny stories in the near future but first I must get some haying, watering and more then likely get peed on by the other two bucks we have. Those who have goats know just what I am talking about. Until then sing with me "Ooooh, that smell. Can't you smell that smell... ooooh that smell." Happy rut everyone.
Have a blessed afternoon.
Yes the dirty looking stuff on Dangit's face is pee... and lots of it.
